[Draft] New Configuration Format

Thomas has started working on a draft for a new configuration format that should fix some of the shortcomings of the current one.

You can find the draft here.

Be aware that this is still very early stages so subject to (major) changes.

Re: Use jpg MiniIcons rather than .png miniIcons

Fvwm logs to stderr by default, where this is kind of depends on how you started Fvwm. If you used startx this might be the console you typed startx on, otherwise it might end up in a file called $HOME/.xsession-errors . If you want to check where it ends up you can just use the Fvwm "Echo"...

Re: Replicating desktop configuration on an external monitor

Afraid I can't claim I entirely understand your problem, one thing that might be of note though is that FVWM currently does not have xrandr support, so without a restart it won't react properly to the changed state. You can try just restarting your FVWM (with the Restart command). Alternatively, ass...

Re: xterm icons

... When I iconize xterm in addition to the title I also get mini xterm picture. That is inconvenient since takes space, especially if you work with multiple windows. How to prevent this behavior and just have icon name. Add Style "XTerm" Icon 123.xpm to point to a non existing icon file....

Re: Raise windows when clicked

I tried of course with #Style * SloppyFocus, MouseFocusClickRaises which just makes my windows unfocused as soon as the mouse leaves them (as expectet, but not wished), but I still can't raise windows by clicking them. If I read the manpage right MouseFocusClickRaises is an option specific to Mouse...

Re: Drag window between pages, but flip no page without wind

@Thomas: Danke ;) I now have EdgeResistance 10000 EdgeScroll 100 100 EdgeThickness 1 and it works like a charm, but just out of curiosity, why? Since my EdgeResistance is 10000 there should be no scrolling whatsoever, or is there some special behaviour when I drag windows over the screen edge (obvi...

Re: Understanding Layers...

Hello again, Now I am facing a new problem. My (java) application opens a (modal) dialog. After the dialog is closed the focus seems to remain on the dialog instead of going back to the parent window. Due to this the application some times does not handle bar code reader events until I do not touch...

I'm not sure if box-look does anything but full configurations. If they don't and the archive isn't too big I can host it if you want, in the latter case you can just e-mail me the archive. It might also be of interest to you that me and Hun hacked something up to interface with mpd (well, mpc actua...

I created FvwmPerl scripts for monitoring battery status, audio volume level, and screen brightness level. They are posted at: http://user.xmission.com/~bgeer/fvwmperl/fvwmperl.html They are free, relatively simple, and adaptable. My laptop & netbook are not new & powerful. In order to real...

Since we've been dragging up old threads anyway lately a little heads up to those interested: I've moved fvwm-mode to GitHub.

There's been some changes since the last version I announced here but nothing shocking, see the NEWS file for details.

Re: Setting screen resolution in fvwm running ubuntu 12.04

I used to start gnome-settings-daemon from my Fvwm configuration file which worked fine back when I did it. This is quite a few years ago mind you, but I don't see why that should no longer work. Worth a try at least.

Are you thinking of EWMHBaseStruts? If not you'll have to be a bit more specific I'm afraid.

So I implemented such a thing using the FvwmButtons module - the only question to the exprets is what is the best way to make it "invisible". From what i understand I could 1) use a patch to get translucent colorsets from fvwm-themes ( I use version 2.6.5 of fvwm) This could work I suppos...

As far as I'm aware there is no multiborder option in Fvwm, the user of the config you used as a base must have been running an Fvwm with unofficial patches.

I listened to some more by them. Some songs are pretty good, so consider my earlier statement partially retracted :D ( I know I whined. ) While I wouldn't consider myself a Beatles fan I have to say I'm baffled there are people that don't know about them.
