fvwm on opensuse leap 42 freezes display manager

I am a happy fvwm user on an a somewhat old openSUSE 11.3 (I tend to upgrade only at hardware change). We recently have got some high school students for a stage, and put them on a freshly installed opensuse leap 42 workstation. Since I wanted those working under my supervision to share my fvwm conf...

mounting USB keys

A colleague which recently moved from KDE to fvwm asked me if there is a way to have an USB key mounted automagically when inserted, as apparently it happens on KDE. I had no clue. Personally I do mount the USB key manually using alias sudo mount -t auto -o uid= xxxx ,gid= yyyy /dev/sdh1 /mnt but if...

Re: Modules in Bash or AWK

I have a crontab tcsh script which uses FvwmCommand, and another one which is called periodically by an FvwmScript invoked by the .fvwmrc (this pings a few local hosts and sets the colour of a little widget as green or red whether they respond or not). I have also another one called by a single Pipe...

Re: fvwmforums.org upgraded to phpBB 3.1.8

No particular problem for me, also because the New (recent post) button has been "pulled out" from the hamburger menu (a common issue with forum upgrades), but where is the Feline logo gone, meeow ?

Re: fvwm implementing theme

Using fvwmcommand to test what you later put in .fvwmrc ?
Using the "restart fvwm" button in your root menu (if you have any) after editing .fvwmrc ?

Re: NoDE - life without a desktop environment

Well, I've always been on Suse Linux since when I left "true" Unix and never used "desktop environments" (like the terribly heavy KDE which comes with Suse ... I only use its utility kdiff3 for graphical file comparison). I always used fvwm. I recently reshuffled my configuration...

FVWM, the Fenix Virtual Window Manager

I always liked fvwm as something highly configurable in the spirit What You Get Is What You Intended, so after about a decennium of happy use of it, I recently decided to refurbish my configuration (also because I've got a new 24" screen most suitable to my presbyopia). So I spent quite some ti...

Re: The Beatles - Some sixties group my grandparents listene

After about 20 days I wanted to subscribe to the forum, which looks more active than the mailing list (and is based on phpBB which is a nice interface), I finally managed to get past the barrage of the registration (fixed) captcha, which was to me more ununderstandable than the conundrums in the old...
