FVWM console output >> logfile

How can I change the output on the console I launched startx from to append to a log file lets say /tmp/log/fvwm_log

I tried using fvwm >> /tmp/log/fvwm_log but it sill just outputs to the console and not to the file. I have also tried > and |. (BTW: this is in .xinitrc)

From FVWM FAQ:

5.8 How do I capture the output (e.g. errors) of fvwm?

A: Errors are reported to the standard error file. You can redirect
standard error to a file when fvwm is started: “fvwm 2>
fvwm-errors”. X sessions started by xdm often redirect errors to a
file named “.xsession-errors”.

Alternatively, FvwmConsole or “FvwmForm FvwmForm-Talk” modules
will display error messages.
