Returning from submenus with shortcuts?

When I press Ctrl+1 my root menu opens. If I press 2 in my root menu I open a submenu called “setup”. But what if I would like to get back to my root menu, what do I press then?

Press ESC, and then the correct key combination.

When I press Esc the menu just disappears.

Then I misunderstand what you’re trying to do, If you just want to navigate the current menu, then use the arrow keys. You can also configure the menu to use ‘hotkeys’ as in something like:

+ "&Foobar" Exec exec foobar

So that the “F” in “Foobar” would get underlined. Of course, if the submenu is not related to any parent menu, then you can’t navigate back up.
