I have just installed automatix and it works fine in gnome, but how do I use it in fvwm? I don’t know how to add it to a menu…

Figure out where u installed it to then run it from that location.
Automatix is a program someone on the ubuntuforums wrote that is a newb friendly gui program that auto installs common programs, codecs, etc.
