how to configure fvwm under gnome 3

I would like to know if it’s possible to use fvwm under gnome 3, for Scientific Linux 7.1 (or RHEL 7.x). My current config works well for Scientific Linux 6.6 (under gnome 2), but for SL 7.1 under gnome 3 the desktop covers the gnome panels, so they are not accessible.

Is there a solution? If so, what config commands might make it work?

Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

This is going to be tricky, to impossible, given how Gnome3 clients are often expected to behave; fvwm has no support for them.

Dear Thomas,

Thanks for such a speedy response, even though it brought sad news. FVWM has been my favorite for years. The idea of expanding my monitor by a factor of four or more is still very appealing, and leaves me wondering why such virtualness has not seemed to catch on with other window manager developers.

I gather you are more or less retired now. Your help and advice over the years has been much appreciated. I wish you the best.
