SOLVED: volume control icon for ubuntu 16.04

I’m running fvwm under ubuntu. In version 14.04, I could get a volume control icon by running the command gnome-sound-applet but this command appears to be no longer available in ubuntu xenial (16.04). Is there some other way to get a volume control icon? Thanks!

Thomas’s suggestion worked fine, thanks!

This has nothing to do with FVWM.

You could use volumeicon-alsa as a replacement if you are running a system tray like stalonetray.

Change the mixer of volumeicon-alsa and use pavucontrol instead. It is a little bit tricky to get the sound back - you’ve to play with the settings of pavucontrol but it works.
