Some configs

Some people here tries to get configs but links are sometimes dead…
I put some configs, that I got on the Web during the past two years, on my FTP account…
I also put the screenshots, when available, and 3 videos.

I give them with no warranty. They may work or not. Lots of those archives don’t have wallpapers or icons in it…
The following list is sorted by the name I think the config belongs to.
If some mistakes remain in dates, files or names, please let me know…

If some of you don’t allow me to make their own config(s) available, please tell me and I will, as fast as possible, remove them from this list…

Excellent. I am sure people will appreciate this. It would have been nice to move this to the wiki at some point.

I notice you didn’t bother with my config. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll try not to be too offended.

That config from mine is from a few days ago. My notation for dates is a bit strange hehe, so I translated it to a more human understandable format, here you have three screenshots as well. You can add them to the post if you want to.

The config:
jesgue.homelinux.org/public/fvwm … 16.tar.bz2

The shots:
jesgue.homelinux.org/public/gkre … 033203.jpg
jesgue.homelinux.org/public/gkre … 033243.jpg
jesgue.homelinux.org/public/gkre … 033352.jpg

Nice initiative, by the way. I am sure that it will be useful for a lot of people. Thanks

PS. I think it is the first time in my life that I have the first position into any list :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT, I can’t see a single screenshot, the links seem to be broken, the tarballs open ok, though.

@6thpink : I fixed the links.
I made this post from a file that I created with sed and awk from my directories entries and I think I messed up the main sed command  . I am french so files’ dates on the web site are french speaking formated (DD-MM-YYYY) but I wanted to use the english form for the post !!

@thomasadam : Sorry for your config. Indeed, I only put here the configs I had on my computer, and I downloaded only those I wanted to try at that moment… But I now will go back to the Web and try to catch those I left behind…

Don’t worry, I am spanish and around here we use the same date format that you do  But for things that I regularly backup, I usually store them in yyyy-mm-dd format so the listing are more easily sorted in a real cronological order, by putting the more significative digits at the beggining and the less significative ones (the day) at the end.

Thanks again for all the work. I am sure that it will be a good thing for a lot of people.

even my is here… and i`ve been lost this config. thnx!

by the way (forgot to update my theme) : Screen: click and config fantastic fvwm

Well done DidgeriDude! Thank you for this!

Many thanks indeed

This is a great help for a newcomer!!!

wow, that is my conf! thank you!

Ahh, great idea indeed

Guess I’ll have to upload new versions of my config and some new screenshots though, the ones online are kind of old it appears

hi,

I change the post because I think it is much easier to have direct links to the screenshots than downloading and extract them from archives…

Otherwise, I don’t know if posting here your config is a good idea. I think it is a better way to use your own post for people with specific questions… Just my idea, tell me if I’m wrong…

Furthermore, you can PM if you want me to post more screenshots of your config that you can’t make available… I will upload them.

Of course, people should stick to their own thread(s) when sharing their config(s), we don’t want to make this thread into the mess we tried to get out of by creating this forum (the huge “screenshots” threads you find on about every *nix related forum).

I definitely agree !!

This thread is just a way to prevent configs from disappearing… Because I think there are always useful or interesting things in them, even if the author decided to delete those things, for any reason, in their next releases !

It’s a nice sentiment, but flawed nevertheless, since you can’t possibly expect to keep it updated, or archive as many as you would like. Thankfully google, and people like thewaybackmachine tend to fill in the blanks.

– Thomas Adam

Right.

In fact, I reproduced here the way I’m working with FVWM : I keep all these configs at my fingertips so I can easily find, looking the screenshots, some functionnalities I’d like to have in my own config !
Furthermore, I use a special $[FVWM_USERDIR]/.fvwm2rc file that allows me to test other configs for one session just modifying a link (and sometimes more lines in config !, especially for images, pathes, icons, etc.)

$HOME/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc
# Current theme
SetEnv current_thm $[FVWM_USERDIR]/current

Config loading

Read $[current_thm]/fvwm2rc
And for changing config for the next session :

$ cd $FVWM_USERDIR $ rm current $ ln -s $HOME/path/to/the/themes/Taviso/2006-03-11 current
then I quit FVWM and re-open a FVWM session.

Maybe I should think of making a menu entry to do so and use the Restart function but I don’t know if using Restart can really reload an entire config deleting in memory ALL the components of the previous one loaded…

Yes, it’ll work just fine:

Restart fvwm -f $./some_filr

There’s nothing special to what you’re doing – fvwm-themes has been using a similar technique for years.

– Thomas Adam

Thanks.

Well…, it sounded special to me, because I never used fvwm-themes !! So, it was, if not special, different from what I saw in configs I had…

I have migrated to svg. This is a new version of my theme. It includes a few enhancements, but the main one is that if is fully based on svg icons. There are everywhere, from the menus to the panels or WindowList.

You can download it from here:
jesgue.homelinux.org/public/fvwm … eb.tar.bz2

Beware that svg support is only in the fvwm cvs branch, regular fvwm does not support it, so don’t bother trying to download this theme if you don’t have svg support. You can check that by doing a simple:

$ fvwm -version
fvwm 2.5.22 (from cvs) compiled on Feb 10 2007 at 21:24:17
with support for: ReadLine, XPM, PNG, SVG, Shape, XShm, SM, XRender, XFT, NLS

fvwm comes with NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law. You may
redistribute copies of fvwm under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
For more information about these matters, see the file named COPYING.

You can see the stuff that is supported by fvwm in that output. If you want the theme but you do not have svg support and don’t want to bother installing it, you can still use the old version of my theme:

jesgue.homelinux.org/public/fvwm … ne.tar.bz2

Except for the svg support, they differ in just minor details.

As svg is scalable and the svg patched fvwm can do many fancy things with those pictures, you can get a pseudo-zoom effect when hovering the panels by just using to different sizes for Icon and ActiveIcon, same for PressIcon. So, you no longer need three different icons to do so.

Regards.

Can we not taint this thread with repeated information found elsewhere, please? People are well aware of your migrated SVG icons.

– Thomas Adam

Nice list, if u need a mirror for the files let me know, Since that config ive updated it … Althought im not using fvwm anymore here it is.

Config

Looking at the config I was using:

Conky - System info
Xscreensaver - Screensaver
Trayer - Sys tray icons
Habak - Sets wallpaper
Wallpaper

I dont garantee that the config wont break anything, it was something i was working on for myself so it might not be too user portable …
